Music and the abstract brain

The beauty of music and the pleasure it gives us are both extremely pervasive across cultures and very difficult to explain. But there are reasons to believe that music and emotion are neurally interrelated through gesture and imaginary body schemas. Musical perception and performance may be at the origin of human language and symbolization; the esthetics of singing, playing and dancing creates symbolic meaning, which creates abstract thinking.
